This section provides a simple and clear description of the main historical and architectural features of 24 mountain villages, including some of the most significant settlements in the Apennine Mountains of Reggio Emilia. These villages stand out for their traditional buildings and some still have some true gems and works of art. In any case, whether the buildings are "unstructured" or were designed according to the dictates of culture and art, they all represent an exceptional wealth for their amount and quality which is not always given the due acknowledgement.

The aim of this section is to promote the understanding of our local mountains and see them in a new light, to shift the focus from their spectacular woods and streams and put the spotlight on some of the historical settlements where people have lived and worked in peace for centuries.
