The Apennines in a Hot Air Balloon

The Apennine Mountains of Reggio Emilia offers everyone the opportunity to try a trip in a hot air balloon, suspended by a bubble of warm air, drifting wherever the wind takes you. The balloons set off from Carpineti, near Matilda’s famous castle. The town sits in the middle tier of the mountains and is known for its rich history and artistic heritage, its beauty spots and great food. The flights are completely safe: passengers are in the hands of the professionals. The balloons are also environment-friendly, as they fly serenely through the sky with only the occasional burst of the balloon’s burner to shatter the silence. A balloon flight is a unique opportunity to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the scenery from inside a wicker basket, flying over medieval villages, castles, forests and clearings where deer graze. Of course, you can never be sure just where you will touch down because it all depends on the direction of the wind.  Flights last for over an hour and finish with a ballooning baptism ceremony, breakfast and presentation of your flight certificate. Passengers are then taken back to the departure point by the ground staff. Morning or afternoon flights can be booked throughout the year for groups of at least 3-4 people with a few days notice.

Carpineti has been the preferred venue for many spectacular international gatherings of hot air balloons for several years now. "The San Valentino rally" is the most famous and is held in February.
